Former President John Mahama has reiterated his plans to establish rice mills and Farmer Service Centres across Ghana as part of efforts to boost the agriculture sector if elected in 2024.

Mahama, who is the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the next elections, shared the party's plans during a meeting with South Korean Ambassador Park Kyongsig on Thursday, June 27.

"I also shared with Ambassador Park the National Democratic Congress’ plans to establish rice mills and Farmer Service Centres to boost our agricultural sector," Mahama wrote in a Facebook post about the meeting.

The former President said the proposed rice mills and farmer service centres forms part of the NDC's blueprint to enhance Ghana's agriculture and attain food security.

It will help boost the production and processing of rice in the country, he noted.

Mahama's announcement comes after he expressed gratitude to South Korea for its "invaluable support and investments" in Ghana's agriculture sector.

This includes the introduction of new rice varieties and a $2 billion investment framework to support sectors like healthcare, education, environment and agriculture.

"South Korea's commitment to bolstering our agricultural sector is truly commendable and will undoubtedly make a substantial difference," Mahama stated.
