The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has condemned the alleged physical assault of a student during an event at the Christian Service University College (CSUC) in Kumasi.

According to NUGS, a second-year student was subjected to physical assault by unknown assailants at CSUC's 50th anniversary public lecture.

The student had reportedly expressed disagreement with discussions during one of the sessions.

In a statement dated June 24, NUGS said, "The brutal act of violence against the student is deeply condemned."

The statement issued by NUGS Secretary for Press Kwasi Adjei Worae added: "We urge the management of Christian Service University College and the Ghana Police Service to conduct a swift and thorough investigation into this incident, identify the perpetrators, and hold them accountable for their actions."

It is believed the student, named Nana Boakye, was attacked after retorting "Mahama will lose" in response to remarks directed at Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during a speech by former President John Dramani Mahama.

NUGS has called on authorities to promptly investigate the matter and bring any perpetrators to justice.

The union affirmed its commitment to ensuring student safety and protecting the right to free expression.
