Ghana's 64th Republic Day anniversary celebrations have been marked by criticism of the ruling New Patriotic Party's leadership from the opposition National Democratic Congress.

In a press release to commemorate the day on Monday, July 1, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey lamented that "the promise of those early years has been overshadowed by the failures of the current NPP administration."

The statement cites "a leadership lacking credibility and patriotism," an economy "in disarray" with high youth unemployment, and deteriorating education and healthcare.

"Citizens are burdened with excessive taxes, businesses struggling to survive and hope and dignity of our people at their lowest ebb," Fifi Kwetey said.

He added that NDC flagbearer John Mahama has heard concerns from Ghanaians on his listening tour and will soon unveil plans to "tackle our economic challenges and put Ghana back on the path of recovery and progress."

The NDC chief scribe called on citizens, especially youth, women and first-time voters, to back the NDC's campaign to "remove the failed Akufo Addo/Bawumia government and bring about real change."

The general secretary observed "the NPP's desperation to cling to power and their palpable attempts to subvert the will of the people," pledging NDC support for a "fair and transparent election process."

"H.E. John Mahama embodies integrity, credibility, and a commitment to public service - essential qualities to restore hope and drive meaningful change in Ghana,” he emphasized.
