The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has demanded an unqualified apology from former president John Dramani Mahama over an alleged assault of some students of the Christian Service University (CSU) in Kumasi by his bodyguards.

According to a statement signed by the NPP's National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha, some students were assaulted at CSU on Wednesday during an event to mark the 50th anniversary celebrations of the university where Mr. Mahama was the guest of honour.

"We received with shock the news of assault of some students of the Christian Service University by thugs believed to be bodyguards of John Mahama, who was the guest of honour at the school's 50 anniversary yesterday in Kumasi," part of the statement read.

Mr. Mustapha indicated that the students were attacked for shouting the Twi phrase "Mahama b3 we" to wit, "Mahama will lose in 2024" during the event.

"This harmless statement caused the bodyguards to rush to the students in rambo-style and beat them in the presence of John Mahama and members of convocation without any reprimand," the statement said.

The NPP youth wing said it finds the incident reprehensible and is demanding an unqualified apology from Mr. Mahama.

It also wants the alleged assaulters to be handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.

"We are demanding an unqualified apology from the former president. His desperation for power is becoming alarming," Mr. Mustapha said.
