North Tongu Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has rubbished a petition filed against him by Ernest Owusu-Bempah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The petition, submitted to the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), accuses Ablakwa of engaging in a profitable venture without seeking parliamentary approval, allegedly violating a provision in the 1992 Constitution.

Owusu-Bempah's petition, dated June 7, 2024, claims that Ablakwa is the "director, sole shareholder, and beneficial owner of Volta Klenam Farms and Industries LTD, incorporated on September 2, 2021."

The petition indicated that Ablakwa's involvement in this venture contradicts the constitutional oath he swore to uphold.

Ablakwa reacted to these allegations in a post on X dated June 12, 2024, where he clarified that the project in question is a constituency initiative that has not yet commenced operations.

"Media reports suggest that a certain doltish mercenary has dragged me to CHRAJ over a constituency farm project that is yet to commence operations," his post read.

The MP firmly stated, "For the record, I have never purchased a state asset. Nothing will stop us from preventing the sale of our SSNIT hotels to Bryan Acheampong!"

He further emphasised his commitment to transparency and accountability by noting, "Our resolve to initiate a Private Member's Bill to ban the sale of state assets to politicians and politically exposed persons remains unwavering."

This is not the first time Ablakwa has faced such accusations.

In February 2023, he addressed similar allegations, asserting that he neither owed taxes nor operated any business or farm contrary to the law.

"Discerning Ghanaians know crime and corruption are fighting back. Treat that phoney group with utter contempt. I do not owe taxes nor am I operating any business or farm. The GRA has not issued any demand or tax default notice directed at me. We cannot be intimidated!" he stated at the time.
