ERECTION of the Ghanaian Cedi - VEEP Quizzed

Feature Article ERECTION of the Ghanaian Cedi - VEEP Quizzed
TUE, 04 JUN 2024 LISTEN

Once upon a time , there was a supposed Economist who managed to present an Economic Management Team (EMT) to the people of Ghana with the promise that the EMT would arrest the dollar and keys be given to the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Take into context that the Cedi to Dollar at the time was 3.7 Cedis to 1 US Dollar.

After seven and half years in power , and the evaporation of the EMT , the Cedi today is overly excited, erotically charged at 15 cedis to 1 dollar , and this reality has hit every sector of the Ghanaian economy.

The consumer today , is reeling with frustration at the rate at which consumer prices are racing to heights never before seen by Ghanaians by and large, leading to the admittance by the Minister of Communications Madam Ursula Owusu that times are indeed really hard for today’s Ghanaian (Reference ADOM FM )

Ghana’s growth as a country is expected to remain weak in 2024 at 2.8%, based on the ongoing fiscal consolidation, the high inflation rates, elevated interest rates and the lingering macroeconomic uncertainties that the political economy system has created , leaving little or no room for any sector growth within the Ghanaian economic space . As a result of the above , the average Ghanaian today is riddled with high cost of living , despair and utter dismay at the conditions that the present Government has led the country into .

Many wonder how we got here as a country and the answer stares us all in the face , when would couldn’t address corruption issues like that of Cecilia Dapaah former Minister of Sanitation who was found to have Millions of US dollars stashed away in two residences . Now, it is also speculated that this was just the tip of the iceberg , and that many government officials today have more cash dollars in their possessions than the Bank of Ghana, and when this happens inflation skyrockets , because cash flow of the US Dollar is restricted and held hostage , thereby limiting the needed growth that can strengthen the local Cedi .

The Bawumia led NPP , made all sorts of promises to Ghanaians that when kept , could have shifted the pin that can stabilise our economy, strengthen our cedi and created jobs for the young people of our country , but no the quest for personal gains led to cash monies being stashed in homes, we all remember the driver of a politician who exhibited huge sums of cash money on social media , only for Ghanaians to learn weeks later that he had died and no one ever sort for accountability on his story , just as Ghanaians today are being white washed with unrealistic stories about the Cecilia Dapaah raw cash saga .

The erection of the Ghanaian cedi today , is only screwing the pockets of all Ghanaians regardless of which political party one belongs today , and until we the people begin to dialogue effectively with government, corrupt practices would continue to strengthen this erection than any herbal manpower.

December 7th 2024 should certainly become the decision making day for Ghanaians to vote into power a leadership that has nothing to loose to but everything to gain should it be bold enough to stamp its foot/hand of authority on the ills of our political elite and make sure Ghanaians see accountability back on the forefront of governance, so that the next generation of leaders can begin to ensure that working in the collective interest of all is better than working for a mere political cult .

Ghana deserves better so let’s all be well informed before casting our vote in December. Long live Ghana, and indeed the 24 hour Economy as being described my the NDC party is possible to change the fortunes of our nation.
