Carlos Queiroz is too old for Black Stars coaching job - Harry Zakour

Former Hearts of Oak chief executive officer Harry Zakour has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) not to extend Carlos Queiroz's tenure as Black Stars head coach.

The GFA is searching for a new coach following the reported departure of Queiroz, whose short-term contract expired after the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

Queiroz guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the tournament for the first time since 2010, but negotiations over a possible extension are understood to have stalled.

Assistant coach Desmond Ofei is reportedly being considered to lead the Black Stars during their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

However, Zakour believes Ghana should instead look to appoint a younger Ghanaian coach, with former Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston among his preferred candidates.

Kingston is currently in charge of Uganda's men's national teams and, according to Zakour, has done enough to merit an opportunity with Ghana.

"I don't believe Carlos Queiroz must continue as Black Stars coach. He is old for this job," Zakour told Sporty FM.

"We have good coaches around like Laryea Kingston, but the problem is that he will be hired, and they will not pay him.

"We have all seen what he is doing in Uganda, and I think, for me, we must give him a look."

The Black Stars are expected to regroup in September as they begin preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The GFA will now face a key decision over the team's next permanent head coach as Ghana seeks to build on its World Cup campaign and prepare for another major international cycle.
