Former Black Stars coach C.K. Akonnor is optimistic about Ghana's prospects for qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His confidence comes on the heels of back-to-back victories under current coach Otto Addo, with Ghana defeating Mali 2-1 in Bamako and securing a thrilling 4-3 win against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

In an interview with ChannelOne TV, Akonnor, who led the Black Stars from 2020 to 2021, highlighted Ghana's improved attacking prowess and their ability to create scoring opportunities.

“Going forward, we’ve shown a lot of good signs. How we attack, how we create chances to score goals.

"So I strongly believe that there is a lot of things we can do in the near. Of course, that is our goal. Nothing should stop us.

Expressing his belief in Ghana's qualification chances, Akonnor acknowledged the competition from teams like Mali and the Central African Republic but remained confident in Ghana's ability to secure a spot in the World Cup.

"Of course, we have opponents like Mali and CAR, they all want to get there but we stand a better chance," he asserted.

The Black Stars will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign in March 2025, facing off against Chad and Madagascar as they aim to secure their place in football's premier tournament.
