The Government of Ghana has announced that the producer price of cocoa for the 2026 Light Crop Season will remain unchanged.
The decision was announced by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) in a statement issued on Thursday, June 12.
According to the statement, purchases for the 2026 Light Crop Season will commence on June 18.
"The producer price will remain at GH¢1,241.76 per load of 30 kilograms for Grade I and II cocoa beans and GH¢2,587.00 per bag of 64 kilograms gross. Consequently, a tonne of cocoa, equivalent to 16 bags, will continue to attract GH¢41,392.00," the statement read in part.
COCOBOD explained that the move is intended to cushion farmers from the effects of falling international cocoa prices and provide stability as the new light crop season begins.
According to the Board, maintaining the current producer price reflects government's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of cocoa farmers across the country.
"The decision underscores Government's commitment to protecting the incomes and livelihoods of cocoa farmers, even as international cocoa prices experience a downward trend," the statement noted.
The Board added that keeping the producer price unchanged is expected to provide confidence and certainty for farmers ahead of the new season.
COCOBOD said the directive has been communicated to Licensed Buying Companies, management, relevant ministries and other industry stakeholders to facilitate a smooth commencement of cocoa purchases nationwide.
