Roads Minister reassigns Bogoso–Prestea road project to new contractor over delays

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that the Bogoso–Prestea road project has been handed over to a new contractor after the previous contractor, Black Oak, failed to make satisfactory progress on the project.

Addressing the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Development on Wednesday, June 10, Mr. Agbodza said several efforts by the Ministry and the Ghana Highways Authority to get the contractor to improve performance yielded little results.

He explained that the deteriorating state of the 23-kilometre stretch had become a major concern for residents, commuters, and traditional authorities, who had repeatedly raised concerns about the slow pace of work.

According to the Minister, the Chief Executive of the Ghana Highways Authority held a series of engagements with the contractor in an attempt to ensure the project moved forward, but the expected progress was not achieved.

“So when we went to the site, I asked him to step aside. I asked the contractor to leave the site, and as I speak to you, a new contractor has mobilised to do the work,” he told the committee.

Mr. Agbodza said the decision to replace the contractor was taken to avoid further setbacks and accelerate the completion of the road, which serves as a critical transport link in the area.

He stressed that the contractor's persistent inability to meet expectations left the government with no option but to reassign the project to ensure value for money and timely delivery.

The Minister expressed confidence that the new contractor would help restore momentum to the project and deliver the much-needed road infrastructure for communities along the Bogoso–Prestea corridor.
