Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced the completion of repair works on the transmission pipeline at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant in the Ashanti Region.
The development comes a day ahead of the scheduled completion date of the maintenance exercise, which had necessitated a temporary shutdown of the facility and disrupted water supply to parts of Kumasi and adjoining communities.
The company had earlier indicated that the plant would be shut down from June 9 to June 11 to allow engineers to undertake critical repairs aimed at safeguarding the transmission infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 10, GWL said the repair works were completed at 4:00 a.m., significantly ahead of schedule, allowing production at the treatment plant to resume.
"The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Ashanti Region, wishes to inform its cherished customers in the Kumasi Metropolitan Area, adjoining communities, and the general public that the repair works on the transmission pipeline at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant (WTP) have been completed at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 10th June 2026, significantly ahead of the scheduled completion period," the statement read in part.
The company attributed the early completion of the project to the dedication and professionalism of its technical and operational teams.
GWL noted that the successful repair exercise would help restore water supply to affected customers and strengthen the reliability of the transmission system.
Management also expressed appreciation to customers, stakeholders and the general public for their patience and cooperation throughout the maintenance period.
