CDA Consult commends National Insurance Commission for outstanding blood donor award

The Communication for Development and Advocacy Consult (CDA Consult) has commended the National Insurance Commission (NIC) for its healthcare promotion and support which earned a prestigious award as the overall best organization engaged in blood donation.

“CDA Consult classified the award as a testament to NIC’s unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility and community development, as well as support for institutions towards holistic health care in the country,” Mr Francis Ameyibor, Executive Director of CDA Consult stated in a comment on the NIC's award.

The NIC was recognized by the National Blood Service during an event to commemorate the 2024 World Blood Donor Day event in Ghana.

World Blood Donor Day, celebrated in June, recognizes the selfless act of blood donation and encourages more people to join the life-saving cause.

This year's theme, "Celebrating 20 years of giving: thank you blood donors!", acknowledges the invaluable contributions of voluntary, unpaid blood donors.

Mr. Michael Andoh, NIC Acting Commissioner, explained that the commission, over the past three years, has mobilized and donated 5,019 pints of blood to the National Blood Service.

“Recognizing that a blood service that gives patients access to safe blood in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system,” Mr. Andoh stated.

The Acting NIC Commissioner pledged the commission’s continued supply of blood while lauding organizations and individuals for patronizing their annual blood donation campaigns.

As part of the commemoration in Ghana, the National Blood Service organized an event to acknowledge and commend institutions and organizations that have supported the work of the National Blood Bank.

“Thank you to our numerous voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood,” Dr. Shirley Owusu Ofori, Chief Executive of the National Blood Service, stated during the event.

Dr. Ofori also thanked Ghanaians for supporting the service through their regular donations and assured the public of continued engagement and interactions with all interested parties in ensuring effective and efficient health service delivery to Ghanaians.

Organizations and individuals were also recognized for their efforts in stocking the National Blood Bank.

This year's theme, “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you, blood donors,” offers an excellent opportunity to thank blood donors across the world for their life-saving donations over the years and how their contributions have had a profound impact on lives all over the globe.

Mr. Ameyibor, while commending the NIC for their outstanding achievement, acknowledged their dedication to blood donation and their contributions towards CDA CONSULT's cervical cancer advocacy efforts.

"We are grateful for the NIC's unwavering support and commitment to giving back to the community. Their contributions to our cervical cancer advocacy efforts have been invaluable, and we look forward to continued collaboration," Mr. Ameyibor said.

Consult (CDA Consult), which is a development communication advocacy non-governmental organization has embarked on a holistic national cervical cancer change paradigm advocacy, and the National Insurance Commission is a leading partner in the campaign.

The CDA Consult Change paradigm campaign hinges on four pillars: free cervical cancer vaccination, scaling up prevention, encouraging screening for early detection, and support for treatment towards the elimination of cervical cancer in Ghana by 2030.

Mr. Ameyibor explained that CDA Consult seeks to combine proactive advocacy skills and strong communication networks to congregate health professionals, human rights advocates, gender activists, religious adherents, and communication practitioners to embark on a new paradigm of advocacy and support.
