Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has challenged critics to prove that John Mahama will cancel the free senior high school (SHS) program if elected president.
She emphasized that the NDC supports the free SHS policy and accused those claiming otherwise of lying.
Speaking in the Abuakwa North Constituency, she dared anyone to show proof of Mahama's statement suggesting a cancellation of the program.
Her comments come in response to Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin's accusation that the NDC lawmakers are not committed to the free SHS Bill.
Afenyo-Markin claimed that the opposition legislators failed to support the bill, which aims to make free SHS implementation mandatory.
He stated that the constitution's provisions on free SHS are aspirational and require a law to regulate the policy.
However, the NDC has consistently stated that they support free SHS but believe it needs to be regulated by a law to ensure sustainability. The party's ranking member on education has opposed the free SHS bill, citing constitutional provisions.
Afenyo-Markin urged the NDC to clarify their position on free SHS, accusing them of being opposed to the bill.
