The Locked-up Investment Holders’ Forum is set to resume its weekly protests at the Ministry of Finance as a promised meeting with officials has still not taken place.

The group, made up of individuals with investments stuck in insolvent financial institutions, had suspended their picketing activities last month after Deputy Finance Minister Dr Stephen Amoah offered to meet with them upon his return from a trip on May 27.

However, according to the convenor of the forum Dr Adu Anane Antwi, this meeting is yet to be scheduled nearly a month later.

"We will be resuming our picketing this Wednesday, as the meeting that was promised by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Dr Stephen Amoah, with us after he returned from his trip on May 27, 2024, has still not come on," Dr Antwi said.

He added that "I sent the Deputy Minister a text message and a WhatsApp message last Thursday reminding him that we are still waiting for him to call us for the meeting."

The group has been protesting outside the ministry since mid-May to pressure the government to provide funds to enable the Bank of Ghana to revoke the licenses of insolvent financial institutions and repay depositors.

They had agreed to suspend the demonstrations on the understanding that a constructive discussion would be held with the Deputy Finance Minister upon his return from travel.

However, with no meeting scheduled despite several reminders, the forum says it has no choice but to resume its weekly pickets every Wednesday until their request is addressed.
