TUE, 18 JUN 2024 LISTEN

Team Eternity Ghana, the gospel group behind the popular track "Defe Defe," is embroiled in a copyright infringement controversy.

Renowned music producer Kwame Mickey has publicly accused the group of unlawfully sampling a song by one of his artistes, Helleluyah Voices.

The dispute gained widespread attention when Kwame Mickey aired his grievances on social media, questioning the originality of "Defe Defe" and highlighting its similarities to a song released by Helleluyah Voices 15 years ago.

In his post, Mickey stated, “Who is that Defe Defe Singer? If I start right now them go say I am mansonia. What is the difference between the two songs? Somebody tell her to report and do the needful, that’s all.”

Mickey alleges that Team Eternity's hit shares striking resemblances in title, lyrics, and structure with the earlier song, despite having different melodies.

He emphasized that the lines, composure, and arrangement of “Defe Defe” closely mirror those of the Helleluyah Voices track, suggesting an infringement on the original work.

“Defe Defe,” which was released earlier this year, has quickly become a favorite in the gospel music scene, earning acclaim and a growing fan base.

As of now, Team Eternity Ghana has not issued any official response to the allegations. Fans and critics alike are eagerly awaiting their statement on the matter.

The controversy invites listeners to compare the two songs and form their own opinions. Listen to both tracks below and decide for yourself.
