The Northern Trade, Industry, and Investment Summit (NTIIS 2024) has been inaugurated in Tamale, marking the second edition of the event aimed at harnessing opportunities within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to accelerate economic development in the Northern sector and Ghana as a whole.

Themed "Enhancing Trade and Industries in Northern Ghana through Capacity Development and Strategic Investment," the 5-day summit aims to drive industrial growth, attract foreign direct investment, and create employment opportunities to improve livelihoods.

Scheduled to take place at the Tamale Jubilee Park from May 14-21, 2024, the event will feature various activities, including a culturally enriching durbar, a trade and exhibition fair, and a business awards night.

Organized by the Centre for Policy Development (CPD) in collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Northern Development Authority (NDA), Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), and Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), the summit focuses on implementing private sector initiatives in Northern Ghana to drive sustainable economic growth, job creation, and improved living standards.

During the inauguration, CEO of NDA, Lawyer Sulley Sambian, emphasized the importance of capacity building and networking for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to harness the region's abundant resources and contribute to economic growth.

Dr. Efua Asabea Asare, CEO of GEPA, highlighted the need for stronger collaborations to grow the economy, underscoring GEPA's mission to position Ghana as a global hub for non-traditional exports.

Mr. Angelo Yossi Dogbe, Northern Regional Manager of GTA, emphasized the tourism potential of the region, urging investment in infrastructure and sustainable tourism practices to drive economic development and empower local communities.

CEO of CPD, Ismail Yahuza, outlined the summit's objective to identify and build the capacity of MSMEs to meet AfCFTA standards and global opportunities. He urged stakeholders to collaborate in unlocking the tourism potential of the region and encouraged MSMEs to leverage the summit to showcase their businesses and explore growth opportunities.

Overall, the NTIIS 2024 aims to catalyze economic transformation in Northern Ghana, foster partnerships, and create a conducive environment for sustainable growth and development.
