A political science lecturer and analyst, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere has advised President Akufo-Addo to focus on a smooth transfer of power to leave behind a good legacy.

According to him, the president should not be thinking about who he will transfer power to if he has nothing to hide.

This comes after President Akufo-Addo reiterated that he does not want to hand over power to someone he has defeated twice in the past.

“I can’t hand over to someone I defeated twice and who is not happy with everything I do; he will destroy the work that I have done.

“Vote for Dr. Bamwua; I have worked with him for the past seven and a half years; I have confidence in him; I know he can continue the good work,” President Akufo-Addo said at a rally in Doboro on Tuesday.

Speaking to 3FM, Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere described the president’s statement as unfortunate, insisting that he should know better and not make such pronouncements.

“It is quite unfortunate that pronouncements as base as some of these are coming from people who are supposed to know better. I think that an exiting president who has nothing to lose should think of leaving a legacy of smooth transfer of power.

“It is very important. So it doesn’t matter who wins but the point is that although your favourite son is equally contesting, if you have nothing to hide, I think you shouldn’t be worried about who wins the elections,” Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere argued.
