Former Ghana captain, John Mensah has called on Ghanaians to be patient and trust Black Stars coach Otto Addo.

Addo was reinstated on a 34-month deal earlier this year, replacing Chris Hughton, who was sacked after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

In his first two competitive games, Otto Addo led the side to a back-to-back win against Mali and Central African Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June despite losing to Nigeria and being held to a 2-2 drawn games in friendly games in March earlier this year.

Speaking to the media, the former Lyon and Sunderland defender entreated Ghanaians to trust Otto Addo as he believes he can turn the fortunes of the Black Stars around.

“Otto Addo is doing well. It is not as easy as Ghanaians see it. He is managing to unite the team. I think the team did well in their last two World Cup qualification games. Let’s trust the coach and support him and I think he will do well," Mensah said.

“Previously, it was difficult for us but you can see they are performing now. They are picking up and I will plead with the fans to exercise patience for the team and I think they will do much better," he added.

Currently, Ghana sits second in the Group I standings for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, accumulating 9 points after four games. The qualifying series will resume in March 2025.

The Black Stars will return to action in September later this year for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
