Former Zambian national football team captain Rainford Kalaba has been discharged from Lusaka's University Teaching Hospital (UTH) following a road traffic accident he was involved in two weeks ago.

Confirming his release, Nzeba Chanda, UTH-Adult's Public Relations Officer, stated that Kalaba had completed his hospital stay and was now set to continue his recovery at his family residence.

"Mr. Rainford Kalaba has been discharged from UTH-Adult, where he was admitted after a road traffic accident two weeks ago," Chanda announced. "Today marks exactly 14 days since his admission. He will now recuperate at his family home."

Kalaba, revered in Zambian football circles, has received an outpouring of relief and joy from fans and the football community alike upon news of his recovery.

With a remarkable career that saw him captain Zambia in 103 international matches, scoring 15 goals, Kalaba's influence stretched beyond borders. He notably contributed to Zambia's triumph in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and secured numerous titles with TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and CAF Super Cup.

Having formally retired from active football on June 27, 2023, the 37-year-old is now focused on his recuperation. The Zambian football fraternity and supporters have rallied behind him, wishing him a swift and complete recovery as he takes the necessary time to rest and regain his strength.
