Accra, April 15, GNA - The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched the Automatic Remote Meter Reading (AMR) Web Application Service to ensure effective metering management.

The AMR, which is an ECG flagship service, is targeted at Accra East Region Special Load Tariff (SLT) customers.

The service also seeks to improve the integrity of the metering and billing system of SLT and other high consuming customers of ECG , Mrs Sariel Etwire stated in Accra on Tuesday.

Speaking at the launch, Mrs Etwire, Metering Sectional Manager, ECG, said the AMR, which has been in existence since 2011, would also improve billing, reading of customers meters remotely, make ECG available to consumers, promote transparency and also improve payment system amongst customers.

She said before AMR, ECG had had electronic meters which were not AMR compliant.

Meters were recording electronically but we were picking information manually hence the periodic transformation to this new system," adding that, the AMR would enable customers to pick data and all important information as far their bills are concerned electronically.

Mrs Etwire said the AMR, which is an internet based application, comes with a technological format to help customers directly connect to their meters wherever they found themselves by logging on to their dashboard and entering their nine digit meter numbers as well as access codes.

This format, exercise or procedure will tell you your consumption trend and help you do your calculations as far as your consumptions are concerned, she added.

She assured the public that the system was secured as it was pin based, together with a load profile, which would communicate to consumers in terms of what would be contributing to their monthly consumption.

She noted that for the past two years that the ECG had patronised the service, it had improved their metering accuracy and promoted accurate bills amongst them and their customers.

The AMR system has ensured effective monitoring system for detection of metering anomalies, reduced operational cost and commercial losses, improved better supervision of metering systems as well as promote quick access to chunks of metering data, she said.

Mrs Etwire stressed that in 2014, the AMR project would be extended to cover ECG's public transformers and called on customers to embrace the system as it had come to ensure effective web application service to them, but cautioned against tempering with the meters when installed in their homes, offices and other convenient places.

Mr Ben Nyatefe, Regional General Manager, Accra East Region said the service would meet the needs of individuals, companies and their SLT consumers effectively and efficiently.
