Abesim (B/A), May 2, GNA - Rotarian Kofi Nyamaah-Kuffour, President of Sunyani Central Rotary Club, has said the club was established to seek the general wellbeing of members and ensure the total development of the community.

He said the club was not a secret society some people have alleged and neither was it a social club for the affluent in society.

He appealed to interested members in the society to reject such erroneous beliefs and join the club for their own societal wellbeing.

Rotarian Nyamaah-Kuffour made the observation when Rotary Club of Canada presented books worth ,000 to furnish the Abesim Community Library in the Sunyani Municipality.

The 6,250 textbooks approved by the Ghana Education Service syllabus for Junior and Senior High Schools included English, Science and Information Communication and Technology.

Sir Charles Bookshop and Stationery, an agent for SEDCO Publishing Company in Brong-Ahafo Region, supplied the books.

As part of its contribution, Rotarian Charles Osei-Bonsu, Director of Sir Charles Bookshop and Stationery also presented varieties of ICT books worth GHȼ1,000 to the library.

Rotarian Nyamaah-Kuffour explained that Rotary was an internationally recognized club which sought to promote the general wellbeing of members as well as support community development in many areas including education, water and sanitation.

Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, thanked the club for the support and advised students in the area to visit the library regularly.

He entreated students in the community to learn hard and take advantage of the Abesim Education Endowment Fund to further their education and cautioned users of the library against theft as the Municipal Assembly would not deal leniently with such cases.

Mr Oppong-Ababio also appealed to the club to help extend potable water to the students at the Ridge Experimental Junior High School in Sunyani.

Rotarian Ken Hammer, a representative of Rotary Club of Canada, said the books were an opportunity for the students to improve on their reading skills and advised them to take proper care of them.

Nana Kumi Acheaw II, Chief of Abesim, expressed gratitude to the club and appealed for assistance in stocking the library with computers.
