James Agalga assumes office as new Majority Leader

The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has formally taken over as the new Majority Leader in Parliament.

His elevation follows an official communication from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, announcing changes to the leadership of the NDC Parliamentary Caucus.

The changes followed the nomination of the former Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Addressing Parliament after assuming his new role, Mr Agalga pledged to lead the Majority Caucus through consultation, consensus-building and compromise where necessary.

He also assured Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and the Minority Caucus of his willingness to work across the political divide to ensure Parliament effectively performs its constitutional responsibilities.

“We can make compromises as and when necessary. And I assure you, I’ll give it to you. I would reach out, I would consult, but at the same time, I would work to ensure that the Reset Agenda of our President is accomplished for the betterment of all of us,” he said.
