Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako-Kissi, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama over what he describes as a delay in appointing a substantive Environment Minister.
The criticism comes after the positions of Environment and Defence Ministers became vacant following a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of Ibrahim Murtala and other individuals.
Dr Adomako-Kissi argues that the absence of key ministers is affecting government response to environmental challenges, particularly flooding and sanitation issues.
Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily show on Tuesday, June 23, he said the situation reflects weak attention to environmental management.
“I think that the president's delay in picking an environment minister even tells me that he's not very serious about the environmental implications or the environmental contributions to the flood,” he said.
He added that the current flooding crisis has not been effectively handled, partly due to what he described as poor coordination in the sector.
Dr Adomako-Kissi further expressed concern about what he sees as gaps in government communication and media focus on the issue.
“The way and manner that the president is managing our country, I'm deeply concerned,” he stated.
He also criticised what he believes is inadequate media attention on the flooding situation, arguing that the issue is being underreported compared to social media discussions.
