A United States Immigration Court has granted a Green Card I-485 adjustment of status petition filed by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, according to a statement issued by his solicitor on June 16, 2026.
The statement issued by the solicitor for Mr Ofori-Atta and dated June 16, 2026 said the court heard evidence relating to actions taken by Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor, including its earlier decision to declare Mr Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice at a time when he was reportedly receiving medical treatment in the United States while his lawyers remained in contact with investigators in Ghana.
According to the release, the court found the criminal charges against the former Finance Minister in Ghana to be “not credible.” However, it emphasized that the ruling was delivered within the context of United States immigration proceedings and was focused on determining whether Mr Ofori-Atta met the legal requirements for an adjustment of status.
The statement further noted that the court’s decision was based on US immigration law and the specific issues before it regarding Mr Ofori-Atta’s residency application.
Mr Ofori-Atta, who served as Ghana’s Finance Minister, remains the subject of criminal proceedings in Ghana. The latest ruling is expected to reignite debate over the case and the actions taken by Ghanaian authorities in pursuing investigations against him.

How does that absolve him from the criminal charges against him. Acquiring a permanent stay in another country does not quash any criminal charges against you, Mr Kuntunkununku.
