Mahama is losing control of his government — NPP Communicator

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national communications team, Grace Akosua Amoabeng, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of losing control of his government.

Her comment comes on the back of public backlash over the recently held 6th Ghana Ministers of State Honours, which allegedly recognised the contributions of some political appointees.

The move, according to some sections of the public, amounts to self-glorification, particularly due to rumours that the scheme required payment from recipients.

Following the controversy, the Presidency issued a statement on Monday, June 8, barring appointees from participating in unauthorised award schemes.

"Consequently, the proliferation of such awards has the potential to undermine the integrity of public service, create misconceptions regarding government performance assessment, and expose the Government to unnecessary public criticism and embarrassment," the statement said.

It further stated: "Accordingly, Ministers and Chief Executive Officers are reminded that their performance will be assessed based on tangible outcomes, measurable impact, effective service delivery, prudent management of public resources, and the successful implementation of Government policies and programmes."

Reacting to the development on Accra-based Joy Prime TV on Tuesday, June 9, the NPP communicator argued that the situation reflects a breakdown in leadership and coordination within the administration.

She claimed there appears to be a leadership vacuum, alleging that government officials are operating without adequate oversight.

According to her, recent events point to a failure to enforce discipline and accountability among appointees, a situation she believes is eroding public confidence in the Presidency.

"The President is losing it. Leadership is collapsing. A lot of things are happening under him that he cannot control… he is failing, so he should sit up," she said.
