Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has extended 100 job opportunities to Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks and anti-immigrant protests.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, during the reception of a fresh batch of returnees at the Accra International Airport on Saturday night, June 7, 2026.

According to the Minister, the employment offers are part of ongoing efforts to support the reintegration of Ghanaians who voluntarily returned home after losing businesses, jobs and assets amid the unrest in South Africa.

“I am so impressed that already, about 200 jobs have been secured for you and leading the path is Mr. Ibrahim Mahama’s Engineers and Planners. They have offered 100 jobs,” Mr. Ablakwa told the evacuees.

He further noted that telecommunications companies AirtelTigo and Telecel had also pledged support, with additional corporate organisations expressing interest in assisting the returnees.

“I want to also thank AirtelTigo and Telecel, they have also reached out. There are many other CEOs calling that they are going to be part of this programme. They are not going to sit back and just watch you having lost everything, businesses and assets. They are going to partner with government to make sure you are fully integrated,” he said.

The latest arrivals form part of an ongoing government evacuation exercise involving more than 1,500 Ghanaians who opted to return home in the wake of renewed xenophobic violence and anti-immigrant demonstrations in South Africa.

Government says the reintegration programme will include job placement and other support measures aimed at helping returnees rebuild their livelihoods.

The first flight in the second batch brought about 345 evacuees to Ghana, with another flight carrying over 300 passengers expected as the evacuation process continues.
