WED, 03 JUN 2026

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, officiated the Market Open ceremony at the London Stock Exchange in Paternoster Square, London, formally commencing the day's trading activities at one of the world's leading financial centres.

The President rang the exchange's iconic opening bell, a symbolic gesture that highlighted Ghana's growing engagement with global financial markets and its commitment to strengthening international economic and investment partnerships.

The London Stock Exchange, one of the world's oldest and most respected financial institutions, hosts the Market Open ceremony each trading day, inviting distinguished guests to ring the bell and signal the start of trading.

President Mahama's participation formed part of his official working visit to the United Kingdom, during which he has undertaken a series of high-level engagements aimed at deepening bilateral relations and promoting investment opportunities in Ghana.

The visit has included an audience with King Charles III, a breakfast meeting with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, and a keynote address at the Ghana UK Investment Summit.

The President also delivered remarks at Chatham House and addressed the 12th Africa Debate at the Guildhall in London. In addition, he participated in a town hall meeting with members of the Ghanaian diaspora organised by the Ghana High Commission.

The bell ringing ceremony at the London Stock Exchange is widely regarded as a significant symbol of confidence in a country's economic prospects. President Mahama's participation is expected to reinforce Ghana's efforts to attract foreign direct investment and strengthen its position as a leading investment destination on the African continent.
