The Minority Caucus in Parliament has accused President Akufo-Addo of being unmindful of Ghanaians' economic hardships following the nomination of a new Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, July 2, Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson said Ghanaians are going through difficult times due to the high cost of living, food insecurity and a struggling economy.

"With ordinary Ghanaians going through excuciating hardships and businesses relocating from Ghana as a result of the high tax regime created by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, one would have expected the President to downsize his already large government," Dr Forson stated.

He said appointing an additional minister at this time demonstrates "a lack of appreciation of the economic mess that his government has unleashed on Ghanaians as a result of its bad economic policies."

For this reason, the Minority Caucus says it will not participate in the vetting and approval of Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, the NPP MP for Achiase nominated as Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry.

"We cannot out of good conscience support the approval of this injury time deputy minister-nominee, especially when this Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has been reckless, wasteful and insensitive about the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian," Dr Forson noted.
