Independent presidential aspirant Alan Kyerematen has said that 50% of his government, if elected, would be made up of women.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3's New Day show on Monday, July 1, the veteran politician and leader of the Movement for Change made the pledge to promote gender equality in public office.

"50% of my government will be assigned to women," Alan Kyerematen stated.

He aims to have an equal number of men and women represented at all levels of his administration.

On plans to boost Ghana's economy, Alan Kyerematen proposed lowering taxes to make companies more competitive regionally.

“I am proposing the lowest tax regime in the subregion. A lower tax regime will make companies more competitive," he remarked.

Tight fiscal management will also be key to his economic strategy, if given the mandate, the Movement for Change leader said

“If you do not manage your expenditure, then you can only sustain your economy by borrowing and that’s not sustainable. I have specific solutions for managing our expenditure," Kyerematen noted.

Corruption is another challenge he hopes to confront to retain more revenues either than increasing taxes.

“If we reduce the incidence of corruption, we retain more revenue and you don’t need to increase taxes," the presidential hopeful noted.
