Former NDC member Stephen Atubiga believes "Big bro. Bawumia, first northerner to ever lead NPP can't be president without Ashanti/Akan Napo as running Mate.”
He backed his argument with his belief that “Ashanti/Akans, runs, lead Ghana."
This comes on the back of reports that NPP flagbearer Bawumia met with President Akufo-Addo to present his choice for running mate in the 2024 election.
According to sources, Bawumia selected Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO.
The meeting took place at Jubilee House on Tuesday night, June 25, where Akufo-Addo shared advice but accepted Bawumia's pick.
NAPO, 56, holds a medical degree from KNUST, and has served as MP, Education Minister, and currently Energy Minister.
He will now formally present NAPO to the NPP council for approval before a public announcement.
On their potential victory in the December polls, Atubiga wrote, “Show me any successful Northerner in the country, and I will point to you the Akan / Ashanti that made them. Truth is one.”
