You must have retired 19yrs ago; please don’t mess up our future retirement fortunes – Sulemana Braimah to SSNIT board chair

Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah has urged the Board Chair of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Madam Elizabeth Ohene to see to it that the future retirement fortunes of Ghanaians are protected.

This follows the latest development on the decision by SSNIT to sell a 60% stake in four of its hotels to Rock City Hotel Ltd, owned by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

In an article titled "Coming out of the hotels", Madam Elizabeth Ohene indicated that the process to select Rock City as the preferred bidder was clean and met every regulation.

She stressed that the process when scrutinised will stand the test of time.

In her article, Madam Elizabeth Ohene indicated that if the process is examined and any irregularity is found, she is ready to take responsibility and expect to be prosecuted as well.

She also noted that the Board did not involve the President, the Minister, or the government in the process of looking for a strategic investor for the SSNIT Hotels.

She explained that this is because the Act that governs SSNIT makes no such provision.

Reacting to a story on the article, Sulemana Braimah reminded Madam Elizabeth Ohene that she is only board chair of SSNIT because she is in politics, adding that she should have retired 19 years ago.

The MFWA boss further admonished the SSNIT board chair to ensure she does not mess up the future retirement fortunes of Ghanaians.

“Dear Madam Ohene, officially, you must have retired 19 years ago. You no longer pay SSNIT contributions. You are Board Chair by being in politics, long after your retirement. Please, don't mess up with our future retirement fortunes,” Sulemana Braimah said.
