The Board Chair of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Elizabeth Ohene has emphasised that selecting Rock City Hotel Ltd to purchase a stake in four of its hotels was done through the right process.

The board and management of SSNIT have been criticised by Ghanaians in the past month after North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa brought to light plans to sell a 60% stake in four hotels to Rock City Hotel Ltd, owned by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

Amid the backlash, SSNIT board chair Elizabeth Ohene has written an article to provide some defence and clarity.

In her article titled "Coming out of the hotels", she said the process to select Rock City as the preferred bidder was clean and met every regulation.

She stressed that the process when scrutinised will stand the test of time.

“I am able to say with the utmost certainty that the process that led to the selection of Rock City as the Preferred Bidder was clean, above board, and met every rule and regulation, and can withstand every scrutiny,” Elizabeth Ohene said.

She further called on all investigative agencies in the country to examine the process SSNIT went through to select Rock City and ascertain whether there was any irregularity or corrupt practice at play.

She stressed that she is ready to take responsibility if any corrupt practice is identified.

“Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa claims to have God and Ghana on the side of his campaign, and I would hope all of God’s Angels and Ghana’s investigative agencies, temporal and spiritual, would examine the process and tell the world if they find any irregularity or trace of corrupt practice. Indeed, if they should find any evidence of corruption, I will assume and accept responsibility and expect to be prosecuted,” Elizabeth Ohene stated in her article.
