Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaah has questioned the motive behind government’s denial of the persistent, irregular, and unpredictable electric power outages (dumsor) in the country.

Although power supply has been erratic in the country since February, government officials have time and again stressed that it does not mean ‘dumsor’ is back.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his May Day address last week indicated that there is no dumsor, insisting that the phenomenon will never return.

Answering questions during Parliament's Government Assurance Committee sitting on Friday, May 3, Energy Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh said the era of ‘dumsor’ was only experienced during the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama.

According to him, what is being experienced currently is an exercise called ‘dum sie sie’ where the lights go off for a while for government to fix challenges.

“I’m not sure I’m here to talk about dumsor as you want to drag me into it but I told you that when I got to the Ministry we’ve gone past the era where we had 72-76 hours of light out and six hours of light on. We are in the era of ‘dum sie sie’ which is profoundly different from ‘dumsor’.

“Dumsor as inflicted on Ghanaians only happened as characterized Mahama’s government. He’s the only president on record that for four years that he reigned, for four years that he governed it was ‘dum, dum, dum.’ If the nonpartisan colleague says now it’s worse then I don’t know where his realities lie,” Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh said.

In a post on X, Dr. Clement Apaak has criticised the position of government, describing the administration of President Akufo-Addo as deceitful, dishonest, and insincere.

“Deceitful, dishonest, and insincere administration. All dumsor be dumsor. Do you think denying we are experiencing dumsor will let dumsor go away? Give us a timetable and stop being disrespectful,” the Builsa South MP said.
