The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed power outages experienced in some parts of the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday to heavy rains that caused technical faults on its distribution network.

In a statement dated May 2, ECG Director of Communications William Boateng said: "We wish to inform our cherished customers and the general public that the interruptions in experienced in part of Accra is due to the rainstorm that hit the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday, May 1.”

Affected EC substations included Dzorwulu, Avenor, parts of High Street, La Trade, Lakeside Estate and Gbawe.

The electricity distributor noted that technicians from ECG together with officials of the Ghana National Fire Service are working around the clock to drain flooded primary substations "to ensure a swift restoration of power supply."

They assured "customers and all stakeholders of our commitment to ensuring a stable power supply, and apologise unreservedly for the effect of the outage on our daily lives."

The heavy downpour comes at a time Ghanaians are grappling with the impact of intermittent power outages, locally referred to as 'dumsor'.

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has another announced that the situation has been resolved and that the entire country is currently experiencing a stable power supply.
