As the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for the polls to elect parliamentary candidates for the December 7 polls, the race is reportedly getting fierce in the Suame Constituency.

The contest is a two-horse race; between the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Maxwell Ofosu Boakye and a private legal practitioner, John Darko.

965 delegates are expected to vote and decide whom to become the successor of the outgoing incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Kyei-Mansah-Bonsu on 27 January 2024.

Delegates were sharply divided but the majority of them spoke to appeared to be on the side of Hon. Maxwell Ofosu Boakye indicating a possible and clear victory for him.

Meanwhile, political analysts are predicting a landslide win for the Hon. Boakyee should the current happenings in the constituency remain the same.

Hon. Ofosu Boakye, former Aide to Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu is believed to be in the race because of Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and his boss.

Speaking to some delegates, they say it is a clear way for Hon. Bailey to emerge winner.

Out of the total number of 373 aspirants, who filed to contest the primaries, after vetting, 29 are going unopposed, 11 were disqualified, two were referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC), two stepped down, one incomplete form and two did not show up for vetting leaving the qualified aspirants for the primaries at 326.
