In the run-up to the new patriotic party parliamentary primaries, the Bekwai constituency in the Ashanti region has become one of the hottest destinations attracting massive attention.

At the close of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) nomination in the Bekwai constituency, four candidates successfully filed their nomination forms to contest the party's January 27, 2024 parliamentary primaries: Henry Opoku Ware, COP George Alex Mensah RTD, Raph Opoku Adusei and Kingsley Opoku Agyemang.

As the respective candidates go about their campaign tour hoping to emerge victorious in the impending polls, the incumbent Member of Parliament and the Deputy Majority Speaker, Hon.Joseph Osei Wusu has unearthed some shocking and interesting dealings about some aspirants in the upcoming election.

On Monday, January 8, 2024, Hon. Osei Owusu joined the camp of COP George Alex Mensah, an aspirant to help canvass votes for him.

While on a platform engaging delegates, he declared his full support for the retired police officer stating that COP is his favorite and as such delegates should elect him as his replacement.

He stressed that when delegates vote for COP Alex Mensah, they can support him to get many opportunities for the constituency.

Interestingly, Hon. Osei Wusu, on the contrary, added that in an event where his favourite candidate fades out of the scene, delegates must elect the business magnate, Henry Opoku Ware(Owass) as he has supported and served the party in good faith excerpt that he does not share any link with him.

In what people have described as political auctioning, the member of parliament in his speech alleged that Raph Opoku Adusei, one of the aspirants got his financial support from Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli state, a member and financier of the National Democratic Congress(NDC).

The MP further asserted before this Revelation, the said aspirant had invited some constituency executives and some coordinators to pay them huge sums of money to help him convince delegates to vote for him.

The legislator again alleged that Raph Adusei had called most of the delegates to Accra via flight and given them Ghc50,000 each among other promises such as travel opportunities, contract awards, expansion of businesses, etc, when they voted for him.

Reacting to this development, Henry Opoku Ware, whom Hon. Osei Wusu advocated for as the right candidate in case his favourite candidate is denied the slot, said it's obvious that he is the right man to lead the Bekwai constituency but because of rot and disloyalty that has engulfed some people in position within the constituency has resulted in this misfortune which lay in the full glare of all Ghanaian.

The business mogul stressed that despite the display of money and other despicable acts surrounding the election, he is more focused and working hard to take over the seat.

“I'm not moved by all these unfortunate developments going on in the political space within our beloved constituency. The MP himself knows that I am the next to lead the constituency but because of the ill behaviour of some people in authority that is why all these bizarre events are unfolding.

“It is very pathetic that our political space is monetized and leadership has become an issue of the highest bidder. The problem with this kind of politics is we will always end up voting for Kakistocrat,” he said.

He continued “appealing to the party to start rewarding hard work and loyalty if we want to break the 8. I believe God is the maker of Kings through humans.

“Moreover, elections are not always about money and I believe that the grassroots delegates are very discerning now. They want people who can satisfy their communal problems and improve their lives; not those who will come and share money and leave them once they are voted for.”

In less than three weeks the New Patriotic Party(NPP) will go to the polls to elect candidates to represent the party in the 2024 General election come December 7 in which they have sitting MPs.

This would end the party’s reorganization exercise ahead of the general polls after holding that of the orphan constituencies last December.
