Ghana and Russia have committed to enhancing relations for mutual benefit in areas of interest after three days of fruitful deliberations.

This commitment was made at the closing ceremony of the 4th Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC), which took place on Friday, 15th December, 2023 in Accra.

The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, in his closing remarks indicated that the discussions and commitments made had not only strengthened the bonds between Ghana and Russia but have also paved way for a more prosperous and harmonious future for the citizens of the two countries by fostering economic growth, enhancing cultural exchange, and addressing regional and global challenges.

Mr Ampratwum-Sarpong took the opportunity to tout Ghana’s friendly investor environment and encouraged Russian investors to explore the investment opportunities that abound in Ghana within the context of the AfCFTA, which makes Ghana an ideal destination for investments.

For his part, the Chairman of the Russian Commission and Head of the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources, Petrov Evgeny noted that Russia recognises the Republic of Ghana as a promising partner, specifically in the trade, economic, and investment sectors.

He expressed Russia’s readiness to broaden cooperation with Ghana in the areas of natural resources, nuclear and renewable energy, railways, education, and ICT, among others.

The closing ceremony was followed by a signing of an agreed protocol of the 4th Session of the Ghana-Russia PJCC which was signed by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ghana, and the Chairman of the Russian Commission and Head of the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed for cooperation in education by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Education of Ghana, Mrs. Mamle Andrews and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ghana, Berdnikov Sergey.
