The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has levelled accusations against the Commissioner of the Electoral Commission (EC), alleging covert efforts to diminish the country's electoral processes leading up to the December 7, 2023, elections.

The NDC specifically points to the EC's decision to phase out the use of indelible ink, traditionally employed to identify voters in elections, as a reduction in the electoral process.

Speaking on The Citizens Show hosted by Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday, December 14, 2023, Mr Godwin Ako Gunn, the Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC, expressed concerns about the EC's move.

Mr Ako Gunn highlighted the historical progression of Ghana's electoral processes since 1992, noting that there has never been a reduction in the electoral procedures.

He questioned the rationale behind the decision to phase out the use of indelible ink, emphasising that such a significant change should have been discussed at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).

The Deputy National Communications Officer challenged the EC's argument about reducing electoral costs, especially considering that the budget for the District Level Election had already been approved.

He expressed worry about the arbitrary nature of the EC's decision-making and its potential to disrupt the country's electoral landscape.
