Some 49 persons including three females have filed their nomination forms to contest the forthcoming District Level Elections scheduled for December 19 in the Gomoa Central District.

Gomoa Central District Director of the Electoral Commission, Madam Rebecca Ama Quansah said this when addressing the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Second Assembly at Gomoa Afransi last Wednesday to brief them about preparations towards the elections.

She further disclosed that 108 people have also filed to contest in their various Electoral Areas as Unit Committee Members.

According to her, 13 of the aspirants were going unopposed in 6 out of the 15 electoral Areas in the District. She noted that the highest number of aspirants comes from Dahom-Lome Electoral Areas where 7 people have filed to contest as Assembly Member while 20 people have filed for the 5-Member Unit Committee positions.

Madam Rebecca Ama Quansah assured that her outfit has put in place measures to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.

The District Chief Executive for Gomoa Central, Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo highlight on security, development projects, implementation of government policies and programmes and others related to human development.

"We all know that the Assembly remains the main agent for development for the communities in our district. In order to ensure quality and accessible water, the Assembly has provided for the people in the Gomoa Central District, in this light, two mechanized boreholes have been repaired at Gomoa Afransi and Gomoa Osamkrom. The Assembly would soon raise money to repair others that are not in use as a result of fault or damage in more communities to ensure that they also get access to good drinking water.

"Let me also inform the house that the Agenda 111 District Hospital Project by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo led NPP Government to provide accessible and quality health facilities for 111 Districts across the country has reached the roofing stage.

"It has been projected that this project would be completed by 2nd quarter of next year. When completed, it will offer quality healthcare and also create job opportunities for the people of Gomoa Central," she stated.

Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo disclosed that through the Ghana Health Service, a deworming programme was organized in 50 public and private Basic in the District. He noted that the initiative by the Ghana Health Service was to combat schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted Helminthiasis among school children.

According to him, mosquito nets were also distributed to school children in stages 2 and 6 in both public and private basic schools to help mitigate malaria among the children.

Touching on development projects, the DCE announced the construction of a police station at Gomoa Pomadze and Gomoa Obuasi respectively. He also mentioned the construction of 1 No 6-unit classroom block at Gomoa Lome and the construction of a 2-unit Kindergarten block at Gomoa Afransi noting that they were at various stages of completion.

"I want to express my profound gratitude to our Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Hon. Naana Eyiah, Nananom, Assembly Members, Heads of Department, Security Agencies as well as stakeholders for support and cooperation which contributed to the level of improvement in the District.

"I must again say that we have done very well to mitigate any disruption that would have impeded the peace we have been enjoying in the District.

"No wonder Gomoa Central has always been among the most peaceful Districts in the country. I say kudos to you all," Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo stated.

The Presiding Member of the Gomoa Central District Assembly, Hon. Kweku Nyarko Koomson on behalf of the Assembly lauded the Assembly Members for their support for the development of the District.
