LISTEN

The Kontihene for Agogo Traditional Area Nana Kwame Nti has described as exceptional and classic, the numerous interventions and developmental projects his area has received from World Vision Ghana.

Setting the record straight, he has said all interventions successfully implemented within the Asante Akim North Municipality by officials of the organization are matchless, remarking that no government has done any of such amazing interventions for the area.

"No Government has supported us like World Vision Ghana," he stated.

Furthering his commendation, he has indicated that "should government officials follow the steps of World Vision Ghana, most of the human-related problems faced by the vulnerable in Ghana will be eradicated."

"They (Officials of World Vision Ghana) monitor every project they execute with the aim of ensuring that the work is well done. Our political leaders lack this quality," he added.

Nana Kwame Nti showered the above appraisal on officers of the Organization at a durbar held on Wednesday, 16th August 2023 to mark the closure of the Asante Akim North Area Programme.

The theme for the occasion was "Celebrating 2 Decades of Service to the Most Vulnerable Children, Families and Communities."

EVENT
The durbar was characterised by presentation of awards to partners including the Municipal Assembly, the Local Council of Churches, NCCE, Municipal Health Directorate, Municipal Education Directorate, Child Welfare Supervisors etc.

In his address at the durbar, the Kontihene urged the Municipal Assembly to follow the example set by the organization and carry on from where they ended especially in the area of sanitation.

He also admonished them to keep an eye on all projects and facilities handed over by the organization so as to ensure the sustenance and continuity of the impactful service gained from World Vision Ghana.

IMPACT OF ASANTE AKIM NORTH AREA PROGRAMME BY WORLD VISION

In the early days of the program, Asante Akim North Municipality faced challenges with access to safe water and sanitation. Women and children had to travel long distances to fetch water from nearby rivers and ponds.

Open defecation was prevalent, leading to numerous water-borne and sanitation-related illnesses among children under 5.

Through effective partnership and collaboration, World Vision Ghana has successfully eradicated many water-borne diseases through the installation of World Vision Boreholes in every community, providing safe and portable water sources to over 45,600 people.

Children can now enjoy clean drinking water during school hours, improving their contact hours with teachers and reducing infections associated with unsafe water.

Additionally, the area Programme has trained functional Water and Sanitation Management Teams, Pump Maintenance Volunteers and households in Water treatment and management, ensuring continuous functioning of water facilities even after the organization's transition.

They have drilled and constructed 39 Boreholes in 25 communities, educated 3,068 households on safe water handling practices.

Through their programme, it has formed, trained and resourced 25 water and sanitation management teams.

Out of the foregoing number, 17 are still functional.

World Vision Ghana has also constructed 411 households latrines which are currently in use and provided latrines for 13 schools and 5 health care facilities. It has also trained 60 natural leaders and 60 latrine artisans on latrine construction, plus a litany of support.
