The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Education (MOE) Kwesi Kwarteng says reports suggesting cancellation of the teachers and nursing trainee allowance should be disregarded.

According to Mr. Kwarteng, the reports are untrue, unfounded and false.

Speaking during an interview on Citi midday news on July 14, he said “We will like to clarify once again that the statement that has been attributed to the Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum regarding the cancellation of allowances for teachers and nursing students is untrue, unfounded, and categorically false. The Ministry denies these unequivocally and of course, as a Ministry and government, we understand the importance of supporting and prioritizing trainees of teachers and of course that of nurses."

“The government remains committed to widening whatever resources especially when it comes to financial assistance within those areas so we urge the public to disregard such false news,” Kwesi Kwarteng stated.

However, he emphasized that the media should exercise caution in its reportages.

“The media should take the responsibility and the duty to also verify whatever information that they hear and of course we are also encouraging the media to be circumspect. It is almost like sometimes the media is unable to verify some of these issues and we also encourage them to be circumspect and at any point verify such issues with the Ministry of Education (MOE),” he stated.

This comes on the back of reports that the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum says government is unable to afford allowances for teachers and nursing trainees.
