Joyce Bawa Mogtari, a Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama has criticized government for seeking a 3 billion dollar bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) after declaring 'Beyond the Aid' agenda.

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and other government officials had previously touted the nation's ability to become self-sufficient without any foreign aid.

However, the government's current talks with China for debt forgiveness in order to seal its deal with the IMF have drawn criticism from Lawyer Joyce Bawa Mogtari.

In a tweet, she describes Ghana's current situation as a "reduction to whimpering mess and literally cowering under the rubble of the collapsed economy.”

She further questioned the whereabouts of the "so-called 'men' of yesterday" the NPP boasts about, lambasting the NPP for the arrogance of power and impunity.

Mogtari's comments come amid growing concerns about Ghana's economic situation, which, according to government, has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The country's debt levels have risen sharply in recent years, prompting the government to seek external assistance to help stabilize the economy.
