The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Alhassan Tampuli Suleman has won the Gushegu parliamentary seat in the Northern Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Alhassan Tampuli polled a total vote of 30,401 against 28,055 votes by Mohammed Yussif Malimali of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Out of the 58,706 total valid vote cast, 1,789 votes were rejected.

Alhassan Tampuli will be taking over from the NDC’s Kwesi Thomas Nassan who occupied the seat in 2016.

Who is Alhassan Tampuli Suleman?

Prior to the 2016 Ghanaian general election, he was a member of the party’s manifesto Subcommittee on Energy, and the Transition Subcommittee on Energy.

In January 2017, he was appointed as the acting and later substantive head of the National Petroleum Authority.

He succeeded Moses Asaga who had served as the head of the authority since 2013.
