At least 43 ethnic communities in Asanteman including the Dagomba, Banda, Ewe, Fante, Frafra, Fulani and Hausa Communities will convene at the Manhyia Palace for the highly anticipated “Ahoho Da” which literary means ‘Visitors Day’, to exhibit their culture and tradition.

Billed to perform at the event is the Samini Troupe, hailing from Dagomba in the Northern Region of Ghana. The troupe has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of traditional dance and music for over a decade.

The prestigious group which is rich in rhythm, robust in song, diversified in colours and costumes is expected to put on their well patterned traditional smocks in groups drawn from various communities and danced to songs played from drums and other musical instruments with various dance groups taking centre stage in turns, and a team of warriors displaying in musketry at the Manyia Palace.

Over the years, Samini Troupe has become known for their high-energy and entertaining blend of traditional Ghanaian dances, particularly the Damba dance of the Dagombas and Dagaati.

The Damba dance which the troupe perform with ease is uniquely characterised by vigorous movements, synchronised drumming, and elaborate costumes. It involves a combination of unique drumming, singing, and dancing, showcasing the community’s unity and vitality.

Their performances showcase a unique style of dance influenced mainly by the Ghanaian Northern culture. The troupe has traveled extensively throughout the continent to showcase their talent, leaving audiences spellbound with the captivating performances they are known for.

By providing employment opportunities for both dancers and non-dancers, Samini Troupe has been able to provide an income to hundreds of people as well as make a positive impact on the Dagomba community in the past ten years.

In addition, the international community has recognised the work and talent of the Samini Troupe and its dancers, with many clients and artists located outside of Ghana. Through these continued efforts, the Samini Troupe is using cultural performances to make a difference in the community by fighting against poverty and unemployment.
