I took a break from Twitter because of the insult – Jenifa’s diary actress

Popular Nigerian comic actress and politician, Funke Akindele has explained why she took a break from Twitter.

The famed actress has been off from the microblogging app since her defeat in Nigeria’s governorship election last February.

Funke Akindele, popularly known as ‘Jenifa’, said she took a break from Twitter due to the insults and toxic comments on the platform.

The actress and producer said the incessant trolling and hate speech from trolls forced her to stay off the microblogging site.

She made a return recently with a 23-second video showing off her beautiful body and expensive dress.

Replying to the video, a fan asked why she had been away for so long.

“Madam Funke Akindele, we have missed you... longest time... did you run away from us or what happened?” the fan asked.

To which she replied, "People insult too much on this app, so I stayed off. How are you?"

However, her fans have welcomed her back, as evident in the comments under her latest post.

Akindele’s comic and relatable brand of acting has endeared her to many Nigerians over the years.

Despite venturing into politics and losing at the polls, she remains one of the most prominent actresses in Nollywood.

Her hit TV series ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ still commands a huge following across Africa.
