Polls open in France: Voters cast ballots in snap parliamentary elections

Polls have just opened in France, as the country votes in the first snap parliamentary elections in nearly 30 years. The stakes are high, with the far-right hoping to make significant gains. Two rounds of voting will choose 577 MPs, who will make up the new parliament. Most voters will head back to ballot boxes for a second round in a week.

Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen is monitoring the latest developments at a polling station in the southern city of Nice.
