After over 1,000 deaths: How to make Hajj safer in extreme heat? | DW News

A searing heatwave in Saudi Arabia has led to the deaths of over 1,000 people in the city of Mecca during the annual Hajj pilgrimage, according to a tally by the AFP news agency. At least two-thousand people were hospitalized as temperatures there rose above fifty degrees Celsius. The Hajj is one of the largest gatherings of people in the world with an estimated 1.8 million people attending this year.
