Germany's formerly venerable auto industry –once responsible for more exports, turnover and jobs than any other branch of the economy– risks being surpassed by electric vehicles…made in China. Were carmakers asleep at the wheel? And are punitive tariffs like those imposed by Washington the answer, or could they put globalization into reverse?
