Ghana Qualifies For World Cricket League

The senior national Cricket team of Ghana have qualified for the World Cricket League.

The team led by Manager, Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah Asare and Coach Kodam Kofi Anafie replicated what the U-19 team did at same venue last year by winning all 5 matches, to qualify to the ICC Africa division 5, World Cricket League at a yet to be named date and venue.

Ghana beat the likes of Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Botswana, Tanzania and Zambia to record a 100% campaign.

Aside the winner’s trophy and Gold medals to the entire team, Simon Ateak won the Most Runs award with 173 in 5 matches while Vincent Ateak won the Most Wickets award as he took 12/79 in a total of 45.3 overs, with 15 maidens. Frank Baleeri also won the Most Dismissal award with 10 dismissals, 3 ahead of Sierra Leone’s M. Mansaray.

The last match against Zambia on Friday saw Ghana win by 9 wickets after a Duckworth Lewis D/L method was used. The number of Overs were reduced to 32 after Zambia had scored 60 runs, all out in 20.3 overs. Ghana’s innings recorded 49 runs, for 1 wicket in 8.1 overs as they won toss and elected to field first.

Godfred Bakiweyem was adjudged the player of the match after he took 5/33 in 9 overs of the bowling figures. Vincent Ateak took 2/20 in 9 overs. In the batting performance, Simon Ateak scored 27 runs not out while Frank Baleeri scored 18 runs, with 4 extras.

The match between Botswana and Nigeria recorded no result as the weather forced Nigeria to end their innings at 16. 2 overs. Nigeria had scored 100 runs for 8 wickets while Botswana had earlier scored 117 run for 5 wickets in a given 25 overs.

However, a D/L method was again used to declare Tanzania winners by 165 runs, in the 13th fixture against Sierra Leone. After their innings ended at 34 overs, Tanzania scored 229 runs for 5 wickets while their opponents scored 80 runs for 8 wickets in 23.5 overs.

The team is expected to be welcomed by the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) Officials and Cricket enthusiasts today Saturday April 15.
