Health Minister inspects ongoing projects in Ashanti Regional

The Minister for Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has inspected yet-to-be-completed health projects in the Ashanti Region to get first-hand information on the health sector in the region.

Welcoming the Health Minister, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, expressed appreciation for the Health Minister’s efforts to improve health care delivery in the country.

He took them through some yet-to-be-completed health facilities and enumerated some challenges confronting healthcare delivery in the Region, which included the non-availability of health facilities in some deprived areas and the lack of essential healthcare equipment.

Dr Okoe Boye later inspected the 250-bed capacity at Sewua in the Bosomtwe District, ready to be operationalised with physical construction completed. The hospital is equipped with gynaecology wards, an intensive care unit, operation theatres, delivery suites, a sterilisation department, and a medical gas plant capable of producing essential medical gases.

He stated, “We are giving ourselves a timeline, by September 2024, this facility will be ready to be commissioned.”

At Bekwai Municipal Hospital, the Health Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving healthcare services and health infrastructure across the region.

The Medical Superintendent of the facility, Dr Med. Ebenezer Osei Akoto enumerated some of the challenges the facility encountered.

Dr Okoe Boye assured the management of the hospital that the concerns would be addressed.
